Society is changing. Technology is taking center stage in our high-speed lives and as such is seen as both the perpetrator and the liberator. Technology has enveloped our lives and everything seems to be moving with a rate of immediacy never seen before. These demands on individual lives has resulted in the development of new products and services that will help us to reclaim some control of our lives. Enter “Speed Dating” whose goal, according to Co-Founder and Relationship expert Dan Abelon, is to “get people together, but even faster than before.”

SpeedDate.com allows singles to post basic information about themselves which allows users to start dating immediately, minimizes complications from lengthy profile requirements, and allows singles to make matches based on chemistry, not qualifications “on paper” Members learn how to make the most of an online profile to communicate the right message to other online singles. The slowdown in the economy many people are spending more and more time at home which compounds the problem of meeting people. So with Speed Date the membership is FREE. The three minute dates allow you to know whether there is a connection or not. And for those who cannot live without their iPhone they have now released an application that allows you to take dating on the road at your fingertips.

About Dan:

Dan Abelon is originally from New York, where he earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University. Dan later moved to California to attend Stanford Business School, where he met SpeedDate’s other cofounder, Simon. Before earning his MBA at Stanford and starting SpeedDate.com, Dan worked as a strategy consultant for IBM Business Consulting Services. While at IBM, he founded SmartVolunteer.org, an Internet service that utilizes the web to match skilled volunteers with nonprofits.

About Speed Date:

SpeedDate.com is the world’s first online speed dating website. SpeedDate’s patented system allows singles to meet each other through 3-minute online speed dates from the comfort of home. In under an hour on SpeedDate, you can meet up to 15 people using live video and instant messaging. Since we launched in late 2007, SpeedDate has hosted millions of online SpeedDates.

Unlike other online dating options, SpeedDate.com allows singles to immediately determine if they have chemistry before taking the time to meet in person. SpeedDate works because you get a much better sense of your connection to another person when your first meeting is a live interaction.

Clinical psychologist and author Dr. Stephen Simpson outlines the five things that will make dating easier as well as outlining the needs of men and what they are missing in their dating lives. He uses funny anecdotes and dispenses practical psychological wisdom that every boy needs to become a man. Such as; How does a man determine whether the girl he wants to date is women or a “girl” and why that can make a difference in the development of a long term relationship. He makes clear that men must focus on catching a women’s interest during the first three dates. He stresses the point that women want to date MEN not “guys” or “boys” and that it is very important that they handle dating like a man. He discusses how men have to go from “hoping to date her” to “actually dating her” and what happens when it does not work out.

Niche social networking sites that target specific segments of people have made it simpler for people to meet others that share common interests. This results in people building relationships on a common ground and having plenty to talk about. When relationships start online, people are able to better express themselves and communicate without showing nerves. These sites allow you to get to know someone by communicating through technology first, making any follow-up in-person meetings much more fluid and less awkward.

Technology has given people more ways to contact their friends, family and colleagues than ever before. Social networking sites, like Kiwibox.com, Facebook and MySpace, have made it much easier for friends, family and significant others to stay in touch no matter the distance between them. These sites allow your friends and family to keep up with what’s happening in your life, even if you’re too busy to write daily emails or make phone calls because they can watch your progress online, look at your photos and get status updates.

These sites have also vastly drastically changed how people spread information that’s important to them. For instance, a funny user-generated video can be viewed by millions of people in a matter of days thanks to social networking sites.

Mobile platforms for social networks have enabled people to keep in touch with their online friends anytime no matter where they are. This means that they can continually advance relationships without being tethered to their computer.

This technology is especially important for teens have especially been affected by web-based communications technologies. More and more relationships in the teen demographic – both those on a friend and on a romantic level – are starting online and evolving from there to text messages, emails, phone calls and eventually in-person meetings.

About Colleen:

Colleen Moody is senior editor of Kiwibox’s Life and Love section. She joined Kiwibox in 2008, after graduating from Rutgers University with a B.S. with a double major in Journalism and English. In her role with Kiwibox, Colleen manages the site’s teen contributors while writing and editing content for the Life and Love section. She has her finger on the pulse of Kiwibox’s community of teen members and offers advice and perspective on friendship, romance, world issues, entertainment and more.

About Kiwibox:

Founded in 1999, Kiwibox.com is the first social networking destination and online magazine where teens produce, discover, and share content. Kiwibox members are teens in the know who go to Kiwibox to enjoy personalized content and share their interests with peers. Kiwibox provides one of the largest distribution and marketing channels to connect advertisers with the highly sought after teen audience, in a controlled and interactive environment. Kiwibox is the primary business unit of Magnitude Information Systems, Inc. (Magnitude) (OTC Bulletin Board: MAGY.OB – News).
