The security mistakes made by the Iowa Democratic Party in creating their App

Last week there was a caucus in Iowa. Caucuses by their very nature are prone to manipulation and miscounting. Then you add in the fact that the party chose to use a new technology that was untested and hastily built application from a tech company with dubious ties to some questionable political operatives.  The app in use should have been quite straightforward and process the counts and accurate results from each precinct. However, the application had some hidden features that were not disclosed to independent security researchers. So when it came time to use the app it failed spectacularly and caused the results to be delayed by over a week and we can not be assured of the accuracy of the vote count.
