At Harlequin the Only Constant in Our World is Change

At Harlequin the Only Constant in Our World is Change There has been a fundamental shift in romantic trends as well as wide acceptance of behaviors once considered taboo.  Romance is our business and it is our mission to stay in touch with the hottest romantic trends and developments.  Our annual romance report indicates that approximately 1/3 of American men and women revealed that they’ve tried internet dating in their quest for perfect love.  The technology of the internet has created an outlet for such feelings by creating no boundaries — you can now meet people from anywhere — anytime.  Now there is almost an unlimited number of places to meet people on-line or to discuss and share information.  It used to take weeks to deliver hand written letters across the oceans but with new technology we now have email and instant messaging services along with video cameras and computers that allow us to talk anyone over them.  Mobile applications make us available when we are away from our...

The Bottom Line on On-Line Social Networking

The Bottom Line on On-Line Social Networking Did you know that Social Networks can affect your health just as much as smoking, that they can increase your chance of career promotions, reduce effects of work stress, dictate your ability to get help after a natural disaster, are essential for garnering critical entrepreneurship resources and significantly affect your job satisfaction … well it is true. In the past social networks were large, rich and diverse and above all happened naturally.  But today companies are asking us to do more with less and the number of hours spent working and commuting has risen significantly.  This means we have less and less time to devote to building social networks and less time to spend in community organizations that help us build them.  Bottom line our social networks are in trouble. We can’t wait until disaster strikes to find out how strong–or weak–our social networks are.  When everything goes south… the sudden lay-off, the terminal diagnosis, the...

Proprietary Mathematical Algorithms that Really Work!

Proprietary Mathematical Algorithms that Really Work! Proprietary Mathematical Algorithms…This is all behind the scenes stuff of OKCupid but it really works and it is fun to match people up with amazing accuracy. OKCupid the nation’s largest free online dating site and has seen a record jump in membership this past January. With the state of the economy, singles are looking to meet others online and not spend up to $1,000 a year with other subscription-based sites.  It has always been surprising that dating is the only social media category with leaders who charge subscriptions. People are joining social networks more frequently to interact with people they know in the real world and they are using these sites to stay in-touch with friends and family.  While online dating sites and social networks provide users a new way to communicate via technology, the way people interact on a social network such as Facebook or MySpace is very different than how people interact on online dating...

Social Networking vs Online Dating

Social Networking vs Online Dating Social networking sites are changing how people learn about other people’s relationships, and how break-ups are broadcast among friends.  For simply meeting people, Dr. Rabby recommends going to singles sites that have a specific focus like fitness singles, or JDate. Meeting people online is no longer any big deal as their is virtually no stigma involved with the practice anymore.  When communicating online remember that grammar counts!  When all they have to judge you is your communication, it will carry a much heavier weight. Relationships can transcend any medium, however, just like in any relationship the level of commitment between you is the key.  Relationships, as they increase in seriousness will eventually move offline. At some point, nothing can replace face-to-face communication. Never forget that. Michael’s Bio: Dr. Michael Rabby, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of communication studies at the University of Portland in Oregon. He joined...

The Government and the US Auto Industry

The Government and the US Auto Industry You know the Federal Government always thinks they know better than we what is best for us and they are ultimately responsible for the collapse of the American Auto Industry.  In their infinite wisdom they told us that we WANTED small fuel efficient cars.  They required the automakers to make these and they sat on their lots because we wouldn’t buy them.  We wanted large SUV’s so they imposed gas-guzzler taxes.  When that did not work they began placing special requirements for oil processing for different seasons and different regions causing the price of fuel to rise dramatically.  Some of us bought into their ploy and purchased smaller cars — but we did not like it.  Some of us called their ploy and reduced our driving whenever we could.  With a glut of oil the prices came down.  If the government would simply let the free market alone and stop meddling with businesses then technology will flourish and America will stay on top. So this week...

Reducing Emissions Today on your Current Automobile

Reducing Emissions Today on your Current Automobile William O’Brien of Sabertec has used technology to develop a consumer product to reduce emissions for gasoline powered vehicles.  Their product called Blade primarily acts as a filter to capture toxic particulate material (PM), but without creating an obstruction on your tailpipe. It also prevents back pressure due to the built in pressure release which allows exhaust scavenging resulting in a cleaner burn.  It reduces emissions and improves fuel economy by decreasing the duration of a vehicle’s “cold start” operations while lowering emissions and improving fuel economy by changing the exhaust pulse profile reducing pumping loss and improving the volumetric efficiency of the engine. This product is the first to have met and exceeded by EPA 511 guidelines for an increase in fuel economy. Following the EPA 511 Guideline test protocol, Blade underwent independent testing by the nation’s premier emissions testing lab, the Automotive...
