Mikael Petersson – iBolt

Airing Date: November 07, 2015

Craig Peterson: Distracted driving has been a problem throughout the world for many years. We’re gonna talk right now about some products that can really help take away some of the distraction. Make your driving more safe, and of course that means safer roads for all of us. We’re joined right now by Mikael Petersson. We’re gonna talk about what you guys have over there at iBolt. Mikael, welcome.

Mikael Petersson: Thank you for having me.

Craig: So let’s talk about this. I know you’re providing products to Verizon and then some others here. What are these different products that you have? What are you trying to accomplish?

Mikael: Well, there’s a couple of different things. First of all, distracted driving. As you said it’s a big issue.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: But we have finally come to the point that we also use our phones for streaming music.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: We have found about 70-75%…

Craig: So Mikael tell me, what’s iBolt about? What’s behind the company?

Mikael: Well, what we in iBolt are doing is that we are focusing on solving the issue of distracted driving by providing hardware solutions that do a number of things. We call our system the dock and drive.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And dock and drive entails that you have an app, and we have a free app on the android, the Google Play Store, and also coming up in a few days on the App Store for Apple. And what the free app is doing is that it gives you the speedometer, so you have a much more accurate speedometer than you ever had in your car. And essentially you have it above the dashboard line so you don’t have to look down and take 2-3 seconds where you take your eyes off the road.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And when you use your smartphone for that, you also have the smartphone in the phone holder that is charging the phone.

Craig: Yeah, I noticed that.

Mikael: So you never run out of battery.

Craig: Now this table is one of the worst things I can think of to try and mount a cellphone holder on.

Mikael: Yup.

Craig: Because it’s all textured okay.

Mikael: Yes, there are little air bubbles.

Craig: And I’m moving the whole table here so it grips on well, and I noticed also you have the connectors here in the bottom of the dock so that you get the power that you need coz so many of us we’re using GPS applications now, they suck up the power. Right?

Mikael: Yup.

Craig: As we’re driving down the road whether it’s Waze or…

Mikael: And we’re streaming music the whole time.

Craig: Exactly.

Mikael: Pandora or Spotify, whatever you prefer.

Craig: Yeah. Exactly. You’re dictating texts, you know.

Mikael: Yeah.

Craig: All of that sort of stuff. So that’s huge, just having that power on there.

Mikael: Yeah. And what is unique here with the iBolt product you’re pointing at is called iPro 2, is that it’s the, as far as I know, it’s the only product that Apple has allowed to have an integrated connector in.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: So it has an integrated lightning connector that works for all cases too. Even the larger cases.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: That makes it bulky but It does protect the phone so you can just remove one component and then you can slide it on with a 3 second little motion, take it on and off.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Coz normally when you use a phone holder, you have to unplug it, you drop the cable on the floor, and you have to plug it in.

Craig: Yeah. Exactly.

Mikael: Then you step back into the car again. Here you just slide it on and off and that’s why we call it a dock.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Not a holder.

Craig: Right.

Mikael: So the word dock, it means that we have an integrated connector.

Craig: Uh huh. And of course then you plug that into your stereo or whatever might be in the car.

Mikael: Yeah, the USB, you plug it into either a car charger or most cars now, newer cars.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Have a USB port.

Craig: Right.

Mikael: And a cool feature is that if the car has a USB port.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And you play Pandora, which is very popular in the United States.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Most cars will actually transfer from the smartphone the music you are playing on to your vehicle display.

Craig: Right.

Mikael: So you can play your next LD song or whatever you prefer if you are my age. Electric Light Orchestra.

Craig: Exactly. Yeah, exactly.

Mikael: Dr. Who.

Craig: Well, and it does do that on my car too.

Mikael: Oh really?

Craig: So if you’ve got that connector, you just plug it the USB in front of the stereo and you’re off and running.

Mikael: Right. And what we also wanted to talk about is the fact that these 2 new holders you’ re seeing, the mPro and the iPro, also works, like the iPro works with the iPhone 5, 6 and 6plus.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: You can have one holder that works with all of your IPhones.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And very important is that in most states… not in most states, but many states like New York, where I live.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: You can’t even touch the phone when you drive.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: You are not allowed to even touch the phone. So what we’ve done is that we have a remote control.

Craig: You got a clicker.

Mikael: Yeah, yeah. Essentially the clicker.

Craig: Right.

Mikael: I’m sure you’ve heard about Apple Car Play, right?

Craig: Right, right.

Mikael: It’s coming. So if you buy a 2017 any year.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: High end car. You’re very likely to have an integrated button on the steering wheel.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Where one side will be for Android and the other side for Apple.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Google Now and Siri right?

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Well, with this button on the steering wheel. We call it the iBolt command remote…

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: You just tack it onto the steering wheel, you do the exactly same thing. You just press once for Siri.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And you say, “Find the nearest…”, we’re not gonna advertise here.

Craig: Sure.

Mikael: But let’s say CVS or Walgreens…

Craig: iBolt Store.

Mikael: Yeah. iBolt retail store. One of the many stores. And you can double click on it to get to the next song.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And through a free app, you can actually tell this button what to do.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: So if you prefer to have a double click, for starting/recording messages.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Coz that’s what you want to do when you drive.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Then you can do that. So the whole concept is that you keep your hands on the steering wheel. Eyes on the road. And you never fumble with the phone, yet you use it for hands-free, for navigation, and for streaming music, and listening to your message that’s coming in.

Craig: Makes… That’s really handy. We’ve got less than a minute left Mikael. iBolt we’ve talked about a couple of the different docks that I love and I just can’t… it’s amazing how these things stick to these tables. They’re obviously gonna do really well inside the car.

Mikael: Right.

Craig: You’ve got a couple of others here as well.

Mikael: Yes. So on the last minute here, I’d like to talk about this tripod a little bit. What this tripod does is that it allows you to… if you can hold it there for a second…

Craig: You can position it anywhere…

Mikael: Position it. Bend it around. And this has the Mini Pro so you… it fits every phone.

Craig: Oh yeah. Slide out…

Mikael: And you can unscrew that and use it with any digital camera.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And if you are a GoPro guy.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: Like a lot of my friends are, with the 60 frames per second.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: You can just attach the GoPro adapter there, and now you have a GoPro.

Craig: Okay.

Mikael: And you can wrap this around the fence or the tree or whatever.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And there’s also a Bluetooth remote…

Craig: Nice.

Mikael: That comes with it.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: I forgot the Bluetooth remote in the booth. But that’s pretty cool.

Craig: Yeah, it is. Bends any direction, it’ll attach to anything.

Mikael: Right.

Craig: Frankly.

Mikael: Right.

Craig: Alright.

Mikael: And you just have it standing like that.

Craig: Okay, so this is just the Bolt dock in the box here. ‘Dock it, and drive safer’. I love that slogan. iBolt.com. Is that the best place for people to go to find out more?

Mikael: Yeah.

Craig: To find retail stores…

Mikael; It’s iBolt.co actually.

Craig: .co. Okay.

Mikael: .co for company. Or…

Craig: Sure.

Mikael: iBolt.co.

Craig: Alright.

Mikael: So, just type in iBolt into Google and we come up as number 1 or number 2 on the unpaid.

Craig: If that’s what you want.

Mikael: Right.

Craig: Organic search results.

Mikael: Yeah.

Craig: And then is this available in stores as well?

Mikael: This is available online. The… this is just the… iPro 2 has just launched online.

Craig: Uh huh.

Mikael: And I believe that 30 days until middle of February til you have it in many, many stores… many chain stores and so on.

Craig: We’ll have a look forward. That looks fantastic. I’ve been playing with it here. I love the feel of it. I like the fact that you’ve got all of the power integrated. Everything is there ready and roaring to go. iBolt.co, that’s c.o. Thanks for being with us today Mikael.

Mikael: Thank you for having me.
