Cedric Mangaud – PIQ

Airing Date: February 13, 2016

Craig Peterson: We’re gonna talk right now about sensors that can be used in all kinds of different sports environments. We’ll talk with Cedric, a little bit about PIQ. Cedric, welcome.

Cedric Mangaud: Hello, hi. Thanks for inviting me here.

Craig: No problem. So let’s talk about what you have. You’ve invented a device that’s used to do what now?

Cedric: So that’s PIQ Sensor. It’s a multi sports sensor that is able to measure your sport performance. So it’s able to measure and track the hair of your jump in ski, the Gs in a turn in ski, as well as, for example, your spin serve in tennis, as well as your swing tempo for golf. So it’s really like a multi-sport sensor. There is for each sport one dedicated accessories that is in different place. So, for example, for the golf you clip it on your golf gloves. For the ski, it goes into your boots, and for the tennis, you have a wristband and you are able to measure your data from your wristbands. And so the ideas is for every sport we work with one sport brand that has legitimacy in their sport such as, for example in tennis, we work with Babolat, in ski with Rossignol. So they are like key brands that we are working with. They bring the expertise in the sport, what we should measure, what is important for the consumer, and we bring the technology and together, we launch the project together.

Craig: Ok. So this PIQ is the sensor?

Cedric: Yeah.

Craig: That… where does this go now? Does this data go into a smart device or online?

Cedric: So there is a BLE connection to your smartphone or to your tablet. And so, there is two options. Or you can read, there is a screen on the sensor that is able to display data. So for example, on tennis, you are able to see your spin serve on the field during the rally or just after a rally and at the end of the party or at the end of the golf course as well, you can look at your mobile phone and see all your data, what you have done on the well, what has been… things that you have done well, what are the things that you should improve and you get all the data into your mobile phone.

Craig: Alright. So that data then can be processed. People can put together different types of apps to figure out based on the sport, maybe optimal performance.

Cedric: Yeah. So we are not in so much in the coaching. So we believe that the pros and the coach are the right person to advice you to how to play. But we are here to help to measure so, but already when you measure, you already improve by understanding what you do and the measurement is already more about challenging yourself, challenge your friends, so it’s really more to try to make the sport more exciting and we hope that if it is more exciting, it’s more fun, more fun you play more, and if you play more you play better. So that’s more the way we see it not so much saying, Ok, if you buy my sensor then you will play better. I think it’s a little bit oversell. I think the objective of the product is really that, Ok, buy our PIQ sensor and you will love because you will have a little bit plus of what you do when you play tennis, you spend 2 hours in your tennis courts. I will give you a little bit more things so you can enjoy more your tennis.

Craig: So, PIQ, where can we find more online?

Cedric: So PIQ is available on as well as some website like Amazon. And we are working right now at CES with different retail distributor like Consumer Electronics Specialist as well as some sports goods retail.

Craig: That’s

Craig: Alright, thank you very much.
