Security Must Be In Place Prior to Remote Work

One of the biggest problems facing companies during this coronavirus pandemic is that they do not have the proper and robust enough security to support remote-work.  Many companies do not completely understand the complexity of security and think that buying components at the local big box store is good enough. What this has shown them is that it is not.  Many do not even know what they have to protect or if they know what they have they do not know how to secure it appropriately. When faced with remote-work they are facing huge technical challenges.  For some businesses especially those with regulatory compliance issues, remote work may not even be an option. Before you even consider allowing employees to remote work you must make sure that all systems and applications are updated and patched and that you have strong credentials including multi-factor authentication and that you implement the principle of least privilege for all employees.
